5k walk: how to raise money?

Many cities, towns, universities and schools organize 5k fundraising walks for (local) charities. It is a wonderful way to help to raise money for a worthwhile cause while spending time with others.

Some useful tips to raise the money:

  • Set your goal!
Set a high, attainable goal and do everything to reach it! Practice with the United Running Running applications.
  • Sponsor yourself!
Most people are more likely to support something if you are supporting it too!
When others know that you have made a personal contribution, they will follow your lead!
  • Write a personal letter
Write a short enthusiastic letter and include your personal/group goal and describe why people should support the charity goal. Suggest a tax-deductible amount (Suggestion: $35 for individuals, $250 for businesses)
  • Send your letter!
Don’t forget! Very important! (E)Mail to your friends, family and associates. Take it to the businesses that you visit (ie, your dry cleaner, hairdresser, favorite coffee shop, dentist).
  • Use the United Running Community
Another way of reaching people is to use the United Running Community.
  • Give feedback.
Make sure that the people who supported you or others who might be interested know about the results. How many people joined in? How many money did you raise? Do you have pictures of the 5k walk? Are there possible outlets who might be interested, like the school paper, local newspaper or your personal weblog?

Good luck!
